Saving Saratoga County History One Barn At A Time

Old Tavern Farm takes pride in preserving the land, the history, and the people that have come before us. We spend extensive amounts of time piecing together old artifacts and findings to unfold the story before us, with the purpose of continuing to share and amplify it today.

Many of you have been following via social media the restoration of our “Agricultural Village” Barn, located just down the road from our current location. The barn was built by the Caldwell family in the 1800’s. Restoration is currently underway as it sits suspended in the air while we structurally repair the foundation in the hopes that it stands for another 200 years. Stay tuned for updates or follow us on fb/Instagram @oldtavernfarmvillage

In addition, we are excited to share that we recently saved a 2nd barn in Saratoga County from developers who received the go ahead to build a housing development. Located on Farm To Market Road in halfmoon, the barn dates back to 1868 and sits on the property of the Mott’s, founders of the apple processing empire! We received a call from a colleague letting us know this barn is being taken down to make room for housing developments and it’s in unbelievable structural condition, which is a rare find now a days. After seeing the condition of the barn, we couldn’t imagine it being separated and sold in a million parts. This barn needed to stay as one piece. Long story short, we purchased the barn. Since then, it has been taken down, labeled piece by piece and transported to our “Agricultural Village.” It will be built, put back together and one day become the home of Old Tavern Farm Winery. Although it will have a new home, it is our mission to retell the history and story that once occurred between these timber frames.
